Background
 
Cancer is second leading cause of death in Mongolia
1/5 of all deaths are due to cancer
85-90% of all new cancer are advanced
80-85% of them die in the given year
In spite of only 3,8% of population is older than 65
Incidence is 168,7 per 100 000
 
 
Rationale
 
Cervical cancer is the second cancer of women, after liver cancer
It is the 5th most important cancer
Incidence rate is 24,1 per 100000
Only 5% detect in stage1, and fit for surgery
Hundreds of Mongolian women die from it every year
In spite that it is the most detectable and preventable cancer
 
 
Need
 
Only 4% of women can be screened at governmental hospital with very limited resources
No cervical cancer screening at the national level
No training program in cervical pathology in the country
No proper public awareness and information
Poor financing of health system
 
 
Project Objectives
 
Improving quality of life and better health status of women in Mongolia
Increasing detection of pre-cancer conditions
Prevention from cervical cancer
Improving knowledge and skills of GPs on early detection of cervical cancer and its treatment
 
 
Outputs
 
Health care to Mongolian women will be improved
About 15000 Mongolian women will be screened
Hundreds of women with pre-cancer problems
More than 100 health care professionals will be given a modern knowledge in early
Established close collaboration between primary health units and institution
